Yes or No: How children combine gestures and speech to express honest and deceiving attitude

This study looks into children’s use of head gestures to express their appreciation for objects,comparing cases in which the match or do not true attitude.Forty-four children aged 5 8 years old were asked tell an experimenter whether ornot they would like have shown objects as presents birthday. In a first round,children given any additional instructions, so that feedback matched theirgenuine attitude towards objects. second round, give feedbackin way was opposite what felt. Analyses verbal reactionsand response delays suggest youngest found it harder produce incongruent feedback. While relative decreases with age, all age groups more congruent condition, and shaking gestures.Keywords: gestures, signs attitude, child development.
